Joy goes beyond just happiness. It is something that you can experience when things are really good and really bad. Because the totality of the human experience lived before God is redeemed. There is such a thing as sorrowful joy. In the midst of your sorrow you can come to realize that the redemption that is in Jesus Christ doesn’t just save the happy moments – it speaks also and especially to the sad moments. Even your darkest moments are lived out in the reality that “the Lord is at hand’, and this is what makes it possible to have joy – even in sorrow. The Lord is with you. He is praying for you. And no matter the circumstance, we live in the promise that one day the Lord will return and wipe away every tear and make everything aright.
