The Gospel is good news that makes you joyful. Joy is not empty-headed optimism. Joy is greater than situations and circumstances. Joy, for a Christian, can be experienced at every place along the spectrum of human experience. You can have happiness in joy. You can have sorrow in joy.
Christians can have joy in the face of sorrow and hardship because Christ lives in us and gives us His infinite strength. Our deepest needs have already been met by God in Christ.
