We’re one week into the Story of Gideon in our Judges Sermon Series. Todd Cantelon preached last Sunday on Judges 6:11-16. Here are 15 things we learned through the calling of Gideon.
1. One of the key reasons God allows trouble in our lives is so that we will remember him.
2. Nothing changes in life until God shows up.
3. God is not like us, but we are like him.
4. God is aware of what his children are doing. He is not a disconnected deity. You are not alone.
5. God is present everyday. Treat everyday like it is a potential holy moment.
6. Gideon is not a superman, but he is finding a way to do his job in the face of fear and oppression. Do your job no matter what. And expect that is when God will show up.
7. When God shows up, every story changes – including yours.
8. When you struggle with faith, remember God speaks from his omniscience and eternal perspective. God does not need to qualify himself – he is God.
9. Instead of smug triumphalism, we need to embrace our faults and our doubts like Gideon did.
10. We are imitators of God – learning to do what God does.
11. The Lord “turned” to Gideon. You serve a lord who you can know face to face.
12. You do not exist to be successful, self-actualized, or happy. The whole point of your existence is to do what God says.
13. You are the sent people of God. So get out there and do what he is calling you to do.
14. Gideon was the least-likely choice, the weakest, lowliest in his family. The lord said to him – I will be with you.
15. God always shows up.
