Here is the latest Facebook update from Janie at the Hospital.
Here we are at Sick Kids. Joel remains stable in isolation. I am sitting near him as they are repeating tests and xrays etc. Donny has gone to a little room to sleep and we will try and take turns. No word on when the surgery will be exactly, just “tomorrow”. My mom is flying in and will be with us around 2:30.
Waiting for the surgery to be over and having the doctor approach us afterwards is terrifying me and my tired and stressed out mind is definitely going places that it should not at this moment. We will need all sorts of strength to get through that waiting period of his surgery as his heart really is doing quite poorly and even though his overall stats are improving, which is good, the main danger is still there and this surgery will be high risk.
I am not usually one to speak so openly and emotionally on Facebook, but so many people have reached out to us, that we feel so touched and blessed. I feel it is a safe place to say what is going on, even though it’s social media or whatever — it has been the most effective way to get the word out and the encouragement pouring in.
We are so grateful for the uplifting stories of “been there done that, we’re here for you’s” and general prayers and loving sentiments. We were also very grateful to have had Ray David and Anita sit with us through a extremely tough time and his diagnosis. Thank you to my St George’s family for the widespread emails and prayers.
Tomorrow (or rather later today as it’s already 2:30am) will be tough…
