“Corporate worship is a regular gracious reminder that it’s not about you. You’ve been born into a life that is a celebration of another.” Paul David Tripp
Picture yourself lost in a thick forest. You have a map, but you have no idea which direction you are facing or if you’re heading towards your destination or the complete opposite direction. You are completely disoriented. You need something to point you back to the right path. A compass to point you in the right direction and to make sense of the terrain.
Worship reorients our lives
When we make the choice to worship God, it refocuses our hearts, reorients our lives. It reminds us that life is not about our comfort and happiness, it is the celebration of God’s glory. We all too easily get lost in our own troubles. This compass helps us make sense of the terrain of our lives – the reason for the suffering, and the joys. We cannot look upon God’s immense strength and measureless beauty, without facing the shocking truth of how small we truly are. We exist for Him, not the other way around.
Worship is an all-of-life encompassing occupation, but I deeply believe there is something crucial about regularly worshipping together with the community of believers, together reorienting our vision to the purpose of life. It reminds us that this is not a journey we walk alone. We are the church, God’s people who follow together after Jesus. We are to encourage one another to refocus on things eternal.
It is not about us, it is about Him
True worship is inherently for God and not for us, and that truth is the gracious reminder that shows us our place on the map. I too often get lost, because I begin to think that the world revolves around me. Take a moment to look upon God’s glory and you will be reminded that ‘you’ve been born into a life that is a celebration of another’.
“For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” Romans 11:36
A great article and a great truth ! It reoriented me today. Thank you!
