It is time for an update on the progress of the new church building in Alton Village. We were originally targeting to break ground this summer, but unfortunately that will not happen. Though the plans were completed by the Architect at the end of June as planned, we are still without Site Plan Approval and building permits and have not progressed far in the format RFP (Request for Proposal) process to select the builder.
In consultation with the Executive Council it has been decided that we will defer the RFP until after building permits are ready, and request fixed price proposals from various potential builders during September. The builder would then be selected in the fall and contracts negotiated, with a construction start date on or before March1 2014. We anticipate being in the building in November 2014. This delay will allow us to get a more accurate price and minimize extra costs related to changes, and extra costs and quality issues related to building in the winter.
Today I received some good news on the site plan approval process. One of the most significant road blocks has been removed. Conservation Halton has issued a permit for our project. Praise the Lord! In addition I anticipate we should get site plan approval in August or September if there are no other issues. The Formal building permit process is also underway. Plans were submitted at the start of July, and we have received the first round of comments, an anticipate permits in September. We would appreciate your continued prayers as we work through the remaining approvals and RFP process.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask me or someone else on the building committee. “Unless the Lord build the House the builders labour in vain”.
On behalf of the building committee,
