Have you ever pondered questions about prayer but felt timid to ask? Maybe you thought as a Christian you should automatically know how to prayer with others. Perhaps you have felt like you would like someone to pray for you but that Sunday mornings were a little too public or intimidating.
We are launching a new prayer initiative to replace the first Friday prayer gatherings that we have held for over 7 years. Calling it simply, “Praying Together”, what we envision is meeting quarterly on the first Sunday evenings of January, April, July and October at 6:30 PM. Our evening would consist of a time of worship, a very brief teaching on some practical aspect of prayer, some corporate prayer in small groupings around specific themes or topics, and a time of personal prayer ministry for those desiring it. (For any who may be familiar with the term “Concerts of Prayer”, we will use that simple and helpful format to structure the corporate prayer.
Friends, these evenings are for everyone at St. George’s, not just the “prayer warriors”. It will be relaxed, informal and easy to access, no matter what your previous prayer experience may be. You will find it a rewarding and encouraging use of an hour and a half, four times a year. Guaranteed!
Our first “Praying Together” event will be held on Epiphany Sunday, January 6th, at 6:30 PM at Crossroads in the Founder’s Hall. We will wrap up no later than 8:00 so that it will not be a late night for those who have an early Monday morning (and in lots of time for those who want to be home in time for the third season premier of “Downton Abbey”!)
Please consider making this a regular part of your church life. We need one another – God has made us that way. And we need to pray together; for our families, our parish, our neighbourhoods, and the world at large. Whatever your corporate prayer experience has been in the past, come and give this evening a try. You won’t be disappointed!
