As you all know, we submitted an addendum to our original proposal. After much prayer and with great unity we formed a proposed plan to purchase the building in partnership with Burlington Christian Academy.
We just received word this morning that Compasspoint is going ahead with negotiations with another party.
This is not the news we wanted. At the same time, it is not necessarily the end of our interest in the building.
Compasspoint’s representative said that they would keep us posted on their negotiations. Ultimately, the Lord will have His way and the building will be used by whomever He wills. We have confidence in that. It may be us, or it may be another Christian ministry.
After reflecting on the process I can name a number of very good things that have resulted from our journey over the past three months:
1) Our partnership with the Burlington Christian Academy. Three months ago we didn’t even know each other. Now, because of this proposal, we have discovered a common vision and mission with this evangelical Christian school. It is a partnership that God brought together and we will continue to prayerfully explore partnering in other building/property ventures.
2) A growing sense of missional clarity. Through the process of praying about the Eaglesfield property, the Lord has ignited creativity and passion for reaching the Burlington missionfield. This has sparked refreshed vision for many ministries, including Sunday School and creative outreach. After three years of hovering this process has allowed us to put our boots on the ground in Burlington and begin to articulate our calling to this city.
3) We have gained significant forward momentum. After a contentious decade within the Anglican Church of Canada and three years of uncertainty with respect to our building at 7051 Guelph Line, pursuing this new building has fixed our collective gaze on the future. Through our calls to prayer and congregational meetings we have seen the Lord bring unity and a clarion call into the next stage of ministry.
I could go on, but those are just the ones that came immediately to mind.
So, please pray:
1) For St. George’s. Pray that the Lord will lead us with clarity and unity into this next chapter of our mission in Burlington.
2) For Burlington Christian Academy. Pray that the Lord will prosper and bless their ministry to school aged-children and to their families.
3) For Compasspoint. Pray that they will move forward in unity and strength.
4) For Burlington. Pray for a wide-spread wave of repentance and revival across this city. Pray that disciples would be called out, converted and discipled to the glory and fame of Jesus’ name. Pray that the Lord would use Compasspoint, Burlington Christian Academy and us to that end.
Continuing in fervent prayer,
RD
Although we no longer live in Burlington, we raised our 3 children there and they also attended BCA. The original Park Bible Church was also our church home. I’m thrilled to hear of your heart for the city of Burlington and plans to partner with both of these ministries. I’ll be praying from here in Texas for you as leaders and all involved that God’s kingdom will come to earth and His will be done there.
I look forward to hearing future updates.
